Jessica Burroughs

jessJessica Burroughs is increasingly sought-after as an orchestral principal, chamber musician and solo cellist. She has guest lead many orchestras such as City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, English National Opera, BBC Philharmonic and Royal Swedish Opera Orchestra. She has also performed as a soloist with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall, London and as solo cello in Tchaikovsky’s ‘Sleeping Beauty’ recorded for Orchid Classics, with Barry Wordsworth.

As a recitalist and founder member of award winning ensembles, Liquid Architecture and Swan Duo, Jessica has toured extensively around the UK with thanks to the Countess of Munster Recital Scheme, Tunnell Trust and Making Music Young Concert Artists and has performed in festivals at home and abroad such as Texas Music Festival, USA, Lake District Summer Music Festival, Gloucester Three Choirs Festival, Aberystwyth Arts Festival, and Paxos Festival, Greece. She has also been invited to perform concertos such as Haydn D major, Walton (St. John’s Smith Square), Schumann, Saint-Saens, Miaskovsky, Dvorak and Martinu Concertino for Cello and Winds, as part of the BASBWE Festival and performed Tchaikovsky’s Rococo Variations with the Orchestra of Opera North earlier this year.

Having gained support from the Countess of Munster Trust, Craxton Memorial Trust, PO/Martin Musical Scholarship Fund and the Haworth Trust Award for Cellists, Jessica completed her studies at Wells Cathedral School and as an ABRSM Home Scholar at the Royal Northern College of Music. Her primary teachers have been Mary Cawood, Dr. Ioan Davies and Karine Georgian. She has also participated in numerous public masterclasses with international artists such as Lluis Claret (Manchester International Cello Festival), Bernard Greenhouse (Kronberg Akademie), Ralph Kirshbaum, Steven Doane, and Joan Dickson.

Recently Jessica recorded works by Arnold Cooke and Lennox Berkley for Meridian Records and chamber works by Cilia Petridou for Divine art. She is cellist in the Moricosta String Trio who are Selected Artists 2015/16 for the Making Music Concert Promoters Group in collaboration with pianist, Martin Roscoe and she currently holds the Section Leader Cello position with the Orchestra of Opera North. Jessica is also a Trustee for Vacation Chamber Orchestras based in the North of England.
